Nestled inconspicuously on the 10th floor of the Conrad Los Angeles in downtown L.A., famed chef José Andrés opened San Laurel a year ago, showcasing his blend of California and Spanish cuisine. With dramatic views of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and artfully designed within the landscape of The Broad and The Museum of Contemporary Art, San Laurel will introduce Andres’ chef’s table program to the elegant restaurant on Sunday, Oct. 1.With two tables of 10 available, one on the terrace, and one in view of the bustling kitchen helmed by kinetic executive chef Jeffry Chen, the reasonable $150 experience starts with a welcome cocktail, followed by a seven-course tasting menu (wine pairings that include some exceptional Spanish offerings come at an additional cost.) Chen has worked closely with Andrés since his stint as executive sous chef at The Bazaar and prepared thousands of meals during COVID at Dodger Stadium as part of the Spanish chef’s noble World Central Kitchen program...49ers’ Shanahan regrets not keeping McCaffrey fresh with Elijah Mitchell vs. Rams

Heading into a short week, expect coach 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan to throttle back on his use of do-everything running back Christian McCaffrey.McCaffrey rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries with a 14-yard touchdown run in a 30-23 road win over the Los Angeles Rams, piggy-backing off his 152-yard performance against Pittsburgh in Week 1. He also caught three passes for 19 yards. After playing all 57 snaps against the Rams, McCaffrey has been off the field for only 10 plays through two games — having played 58 of 68 snaps against the Steelers in the opener. He leads the NFL with 268 yards rushing and averaging 6.4 yards per carry.Shanahan had some regret about McCaffrey going wire-to-wire against the Rams, with Elijah Mitchell not playing at all after getting 10 snaps against the Steelers. Getting McCaffrey a rushing title isn’t a priority as much as having him upright deep into the season.“We’ve definitely got to get Elijah in there more and do better with our r...Hunter Biden sues IRS over airing his tax information

By Lindsay Whitehurst | Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) — Hunter Biden sued the Internal Revenue Service on Monday, claiming that two agents publicly alleging tax-probe interference wrongly shared his personal information, a case that comes amid escalating legal and political struggles as the 2024 election looms. The agents “targeted and sought to embarrass Mr. Biden” with the sharing of confidential tax information in press interviews and testimony before Congress, the suit said. His lawyers argue that whistleblower protections don’t apply, but a lawyer for one agent said any confidential information released came under whistleblower authorization and called the suit a “frivolous smear.”The lawsuit marks the latest legal pushback from Biden as a long-running federal investigation into him unfolds against a sharply political backdrop. That includes an impeachment inquiry aimed at his father, President Joe Biden, seeking to tie him to his son’s busi...High school band director hit with stun gun, arrested after refusing to end performance

By Sara Burnett | Associated PressDonald Trump is facing new blowback from anti-abortion activists for refusing to commit to national abortion restrictions and for calling Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signing of a six-week ban on the procedure a “terrible mistake.”Speaking Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump repeatedly declined to say whether he would support a federal ban on abortion. He said he could “live with” the procedure being banned by individual states or nationwide through federal action, though he said “from a legal standpoint, I think it’s probably better” to be handled at the state level.Regarding the bill signed by DeSantis, which bans abortions before many women know they are pregnant, Trump said, “I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake.”So far, the former president has dominated the 2024 field while at times spurning the anti-abortion groups that traditionally have...Search for next Berkeley City College president now down to 3 finalists, public form slated for Wednesday
