A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a liquor store clerk in West Covina over the weekend.The incident was reported around 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of West Puente Avenue, officials said.The 34-year-old Karanvir Singh was shot while apparently confronting two people who entered the store and stole merchandise.The assailants were believed to have fled the scene in a white SUV.One of suspects seen on surveillance video previously released by police was arrested and eventually charged with first-degree murder in connection with Singh’s death, police said.He is not being identified because of his age, but was described as an East Los Angeles resident.He is being held at a juvenile detention center and is scheduled to appear in court Friday. The makers of the beloved Easter treat Peeps will be ditching a newly banned chemical in California, according to Consumer Reports.Just Born, the makers of Peeps, Mike & Ike's and Hot Tamales, confirmed to Consumer Reports that it would be discontinuing the use of Red Dye No. 3 in its popular line of marshmallow candies.Red Dye No. 3 is one of the four chemicals outlawed by the passage of Assembly Bill 418, which was authored by Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and signed into law by California Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this month.The other chemicals included in the ban are potassium bromate, brominated vegetable oil and propyl paraben, which have already been banned in 27 nations in the European Union.Gabriel insisted that the new law would not lead to any products coming off the shelves, but would simply require manufacturers to adjust their formulas. The incident took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. on September 26th, on the northbound lanes of Interstate 35, just north of Encinal and near Mile Marker 41.According to reports, the driver of a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer had slowed down in a construction zone with heavy traffic. There, a 2016 Ford F-150 behind it was unable to adjust its speed and collided with the tractor trailer from the rear. HAYWARD — Hayward police have released body-worn camera footage showing officers fatally shooting a man last month.The release of the video Thursday is the first footage released by the Hayward Police Department that shows two officers shooting to death 37-year-old Antonio Lacunas-Escobar of Hayward. The shooting officers have previously been identified as Alexander Robinson and Dominic Espino.The edited video shows the officers carrying rifles with lights attached to them before shooting Lacunas-Escobar from a distance. (KRON) -- A man was arrested on Wednesday in connection to a sexual assault that happened earlier this year, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. Luis LaraPlancarte, 25, was arrested on the 1000 block of Main Street in Half Moon Bay.LaraPlancarte is accused of sexually assaulting a minor in March, authorities said. MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — A buyer from Argentina paid $36,000 for a manuscript of works, including seven unpublished stories, by legendary Argentine writer Julio Cortázar at an auction Thursday in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.The bundle of 60-year-old sheets bound together with metal fasteners bearing the inscription “Julio Cortázar. Historias de Cronopios y de Famas. Paris. 1952” was the basis for the writer’s iconic “Cronopios and Famas” book, published in 1962.The typewritten manuscript contains 46 stories that make up the heart of what ended up becoming one of Cortázar’s most famous works.Of the total stories, 35 were published in “Cronopios and Famas.” Some were printed exactly as found in the manuscript that was once thought to be lost forever.
