JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Even after the largest pay raise in state history, vacancies are still troubling Missouri state agencies. At one point this year, there were 7,000 vacancies across state government, forcing many departments to be stretched thin and pay overtime. While some agencies are bouncing back, the state could soon be offering bonuses. "We have to be competitive; we have to look at those types of incentives," executive director for the Active and Retired Missouri State Employees organization Sue Cox said. For the second year in a row, lawmakers were tasked with increasing pay for state workers. Since 2021, the state has increased pay by nearly 16%. This year, besides approving the 8.7% cost of living adjustment for state workers, the General Assembly also approved an increase in the shift differential to $2 an hour for congregate care employees who work overnight. "They were long overdue, but I think we have to keep pace with the private sector," Cox said....Avalanche players honor Josh Manson’s late mother during moms’ trip: “A really special thing”

When the Colorado Avalanche players boarded the team plane this past Thursday for a flight to Las Vegas, many of them were accompanied by their mothers as part of one of the NHL’s great traditions — an annual moms’ (or dads’) trip. The players were all wearing the same shirt under their suit jackets to commemorate the trip. The burgundy shirts carried a simple message, with the words “Moms Trip” and “For Lana” emblazoned inside a heart.Lana is Josh Manson’s mother. She passed away in August after a long battle with melanoma. The idea to honor her with the moms’ trip shirts came from Ryan Johansen.“He had the idea, came up to me and asked if it would be alright,” Manson said. “I said I thought it would be a great idea. Very, very thoughtful of him. I don’t think I can express how appreciative I am of his acknowledgment of the situation.”Lana Manson played volleyball in college and eventually became a h...Women’s basketball: CU Buffs stun, dominate No. 1 LSU in opener

NEW YORK (AP) — At times, such as when James Harden raced up the floor and found a cutting Kawhi Leonard for a layup, it was easy to see why the Clippers' new four-star system can be so potent.Other times, such as when Russell Westbrook threw away a pass trying to get the ball to Harden to ignite a fast break as the Knicks were taking control, it appeared it might take a while before that happens.Harden scored 17 points Monday night in his first game of the season, but the Clippers fell too far behind with a rough start to the fourth quarter and the Knicks beat them 111-97.Harden joined the Clippers last week after finally getting the trade he sought from the Philadelphia 76ers since the summer and jumped right into the starting lineup in his debut, taking the floor with Leonard, Westbrook and Paul George. But the first four went to the bench for good after Harden's bad pass led to a Knicks fast-break layup that made it 104-88 with 4:25 to play. The Clippers were already aware that ad...Five-bedroom home sells for $2.2 million in San Ramon
